FAQs

Peacock TV, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, launched in July 2020 as a hub for on-demand movies, shows, and exclusive content. It quickly gained traction thanks to hit series like The Office, Yellowstone, and Saturday Night Live.

But for parents trying to keep their kids safe online, the big question is: Does Peacock have parental controls?
And more importantly, is there porn on Peacock or other content that could be inappropriate for children?

Let’s break it all down and show you how to secure your Peacock account with easy-to-set-up controls.

What is Peacock TV?

According to the App Store, Peacock TV lets users stream “current hits, hundreds of movies, thousands of episodes of TV shows, and exclusive Originals – plus timely news, live sports, and daily pop culture.” Its free tier makes it accessible to anyone with just an email address—no credit card, no age verification.

Customers of some providers, such as Xfinity and Cox, may get access to Peacock Premium without paying extra. Otherwise, the paid plans are:

  • $4.99/month with ads

  • $9.99/month for the Premium Plus tier, which removes most ads

That means even kids can access much of Peacock’s content unless safeguards are in place.

What’s it rated?

  • Apple App Store rating: 12+

  • Google Play Store rating: Teen (13+)

Despite these age guidelines, there is no true age verification process, which raises concerns for families. Children could easily register for an account and gain access to mature content.

Does Peacock have porn?

Peacock does not offer explicit pornography like adult websites do. However, it does feature:

  • R-rated films

  • TV-MA series

  • Content with sexual themes, nudity, or mature dialogue

That means your child could be exposed to adult content if no restrictions are enabled.

If you’re actively trying to block porn or inappropriate content on devices, it’s essential to also monitor streaming platforms like Peacock.

How to set up Peacock parental control

Yes — Peacock parental control settings do exist, but they’re only available through the browser (not in the mobile app). Here’s how to activate them:

  1. Log in to your account at peacocktv.com

  2. Click your profile icon (top-right corner)

  3. Select Settings

  4. Scroll to Parental Controls

  5. Toggle the switch ON

  6. Choose an appropriate age restriction

  7. Set a Parental Control PIN – required for viewing anything above your selected rating

Once you’ve done that, your child won’t be able to access restricted content without entering the PIN. The parental control setting you choose applies to the entire account; you cannot set up multiple profiles with different privileges.

For example, if you have an older teenager and a pre-teen, you may choose to restrict both from seeing content rated for adults only (TVMA, R, NR, and NC17). However, you are not able to allow the older child access to content that is appropriate for their age (TV14, PG13) without making it accessible to the younger child.

Peacock’s content rating levels

You can choose from these content tiers:

  • Little Kids (TV-Y): All children

  • Older Kids (TV-Y7, TV-G, G): Ages 7+, may include fantasy violence

  • Family (TV-PG, PG): Parental guidance suggested

  • Teen (TV-14, PG-13): Possibly inappropriate for under 13

  • Adult (TV-MA, R, NR, NC-17): Intended for adult audiences only

⚠️ Important note: These settings apply account-wide. If you set the parental control to “Family,” it will apply to everyone using the account. There’s no way to set up individual profiles with different restrictions, so you’ll need to choose one level for the entire household.

For families with multiple kids, this can be limiting. If you’re looking for more flexible solutions, Canopy’s parental control app allows different filtering settings for each child.

Why “parental controls” aren’t enough

Even though setting restrictions on Peacock is a good start, it doesn’t prevent your child from simply opening YouTube in Safari, downloading TikTok, or watching explicit content via other streaming services. If you’re serious about filtering what your child sees across devices, a comprehensive parental control app may be necessary.

What shows or movies on Peacock might be problematic?

Titles rated TV-MA or R can range from harmless to disturbing. Some examples of concern:

  • Crime dramas with graphic violence or sexual assault themes

  • Comedies with frequent sexual references or nudity

  • Reality shows with adult language or inappropriate behavior

Parents should periodically review what’s trending on Peacock to stay ahead of potential exposure.

Can a Peacock TV account be shared?

Yes. Peacock allows up to 3 simultaneous streams per account, so multiple family members can watch different shows at the same time. However, as mentioned, you can’t create separate content restrictions per user.

Are downloads possible?

Currently, Peacock does not allow downloads on the free plan. Downloading for offline viewing is only available to Premium Plus subscribers—and only for select content.

This limitation can be helpful for parents who want to prevent kids from accessing media unsupervised.

How does Canopy work with Peacock parental control?

Peacock doesn’t host explicit porn — but its mature content (including sexual themes and nudity) makes it important for parents to act. Enabling Peacock parental controls is a solid first step, but it’s far from a full solution.

To truly keep your child safe online, consider using a more comprehensive tool like Canopy that:

  • Filters content across all browsers and apps

  • Uses AI to detect inappropriate media

  • Lets you manage settings per child

  • Helps foster healthy digital habits for the entire family

Yes, Peacock offers parental control features through Kids Profiles. You can create a child-specific profile with age-appropriate content restrictions and PIN protection to prevent access to mature shows and movies.

To set up parental controls, create a Kids Profile on your account and select the appropriate content rating for your child. Then, enable a PIN to prevent switching profiles or accessing restricted content. For full steps, follow our guide on Peacock parental controls.

Currently, Peacock does not offer the ability to block individual titles. Instead, it restricts content based on age ratings assigned to Kids Profiles.

While Peacock’s built-in features help limit access, using a porn blocking app like Canopy adds an extra layer of protection. Canopy allows you to filter inappropriate content across devices and apps, including streaming services.

Peacock’s controls are helpful, but not foolproof. To ensure comprehensive protection, combine in-app settings with device-level restrictions and tools like the Canopy internet filter for enhanced safety across all platforms.
