Keep your kids safe online
In a dangerous digital world, internet safety for kids should be top of mind.

Introducing Canopy's Chatbot Content Filter

AI chatbots are part of daily life now — for students doing homework, for adults researching a topic, for anyone with a question and a browser open. ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, Claude. These tools are useful and they are everywhere. They are also capable of producing explicit content, and the built-in parental control features most platforms offer only go so far.

For parents, the concern is straightforward: keeping children away from content that has no business being in front of them. For adults, it is often more personal — wanting to avoid explicit material without relying on the AI platform itself to enforce that boundary. Both are valid reasons to want more control than the chatbot companies currently provide.

Canopy’s Chatbot Content Filter was built for both. Here is how it works.

How It Works

When you or someone in your family opens an AI chatbot in a browser, Canopy runs in the background. If a conversation moves toward explicit content — whether that is a text exchange or an image being generated — Canopy steps in. What comes back is a safe response, not the harmful one the prompt might otherwise have produced.

From the user’s end, the experience is unremarkable. There is no warning, no interruption. The conversation simply stays appropriate.

Because filtering happens at the browser and device level, it works regardless of which chatbot is open or which account is signed in. Switching from one AI tool to another, or opening a new account, does not change anything. The protection is on the device, not the login.

Apps and Browsers

Most AI chatbots come as both a downloadable app and a website you can open in any browser. Canopy’s Chatbot Content Filter works on the browser version. For anyone using the native apps, Canopy can block the app directly — so when someone tries to open the ChatGPT or Grok app, it is blocked, and they use the browser version instead, where filtering is active.

The result is a layered setup: the app is blocked, and the browser is filtered. Either way, Canopy is on.

Which Chatbots Are Covered

Canopy’s Chatbot Content Filter covers the major AI chatbots in use today.

Chatbot Coverage

Perplexity An AI-powered research and search tool. Canopy's Chatbot Content Filter covers Perplexity on supported browsers and devices.

No update to the Canopy app is needed. If Canopy is installed on a device, the Chatbot Content Filter is already working.

Included With Every Plan

Canopy’s Chatbot Content Filter is part of every Canopy subscription. Nothing to upgrade, nothing to turn on.

For families: The Chatbot Content Filter is active on all devices where Canopy is installed, covering AI chatbot conversations for every member of the household.

For adults: If you use Canopy to manage your own exposure to explicit content online, the Chatbot Content Filter extends that same protection to AI chatbots — covering both text conversations and images generated within them.

One More Thing

Canopy’s Chatbot Content Filter is a real-time layer of protection across the chatbots people are actually using right now. Like all of Canopy’s filtering tools, it works best as part of a broader approach — whether that means staying involved in what your kids are doing online, or being intentional about your own digital habits.

AI tools are changing quickly. We are committed to keeping pace.
